TREASURES OF ANCIENT SYRIA

Lighting Design – Treasures of Ancient Syria: The Kingdom of Qatna

For the first time in Europe, the major national exhibition "Treasures of Ancient Syria - The Discovery of the Kingdom of Qatna"

For the exhibition “Treasures of Ancient Syria – The Discovery of the Kingdom of Qatna,” a lighting concept was developed that allows visitors to experience the unique archaeological objects in their pure beauty and material clarity.

The lighting design deliberately plays with light and shadow, with magic, memory and emotional depth – to immerse the visitor in a world long gone.

The aim of the lighting design was not to illuminate the sculptures, grave goods and artifacts, but to make them speak – through subtle accentuations, clear spatial dramaturgy and the restraint of technical systems.

The lighting effect follows an internal logic:– Precisely placed accents for form, surface, and material– Shadow plays that create depth but never disturb– Calm, reduced ambient lighting that supports the space without explaining it

Here, light became the medium of memory – and the poetry of history.

Visitors encounter the objects not as museum-preserved finds, but as living witnesses to a lost advanced civilization – clearly positioned, dignifiedly staged, and emotionally tangible.
