SAKRALMUSEUM
Lighting design for the Sacred Museum of St. Annen Kamenz – altars in focus
The St. Annen Sacred Museum houses one of the most important collections of late medieval sacred art in the region. The focus is on a unique ensemble of five large-format carved altars dating from around 1500 – they form the centerpiece of the permanent exhibition and are the museum's main attraction.
For this special collection, Fischer & Partner developed a finely tuned lighting concept that preserves the depth and dignity of the church space, while at the same time allowing the altars to be experienced precisely in their materiality, color and figurative density.
The altars appear in a harmonious mix of daylight-like and warm white LED light, which minimizes reflections and underlines the contemplative effect of the space.
A miniature lighting system was developed specifically for this project, blending discreetly into the historic monastery church. The luminaires are virtually invisible, so only the light is effective—not the system.
The planning takes into account both the uniform basic lighting of the church and the precise staging of the late Gothic main works – without shadow distortion, without technical over-staging.
A lighting concept that respects history and makes art visible.
