ART HOUSE GÖTTINGEN
New Kunsthaus Göttingen – Architecture by Atelier ST in cooperation with publisher Gerhard Steidl
The new building of the Kunsthaus Göttingen is an extraordinary place for contemporary art, photography and literature – planned by the Leipzig architectural firm Atelier ST in close collaboration with the publisher Gerhard Steidl.
The building blends harmoniously into the listed streets of Göttingen's old town and impresses with its clear, minimalist design. Timeless, functional, and aesthetically understated, the building provides an ideal setting for changing exhibitions of international caliber.
A lighting system was developed specifically for this building, enhancing the architecture with a minimalist, timeless design in all areas—from the exhibition spaces to the foyer and staircase. The lighting system remains formally in the background, yet highlights the quality and impact of the spaces, creating an atmosphere that promotes concentration, perception, and appreciation of art.
The close connection between architecture, lighting design and curatorial standards – complemented by the signature of one of the most influential art publishers of our time – makes the Kunsthaus Göttingen a unique museum experience.
